Well that sucked.
Final score, 1-11 with the shame of walking off the field mid-inning due to the slaughter rule thrown in. I have video and pictures from the game, which I’ll post in the coming days.
Our big problems were shaky hands fielding balls off the bat, some tough drops/wayward throws on the infield and, obviously, walks which led to 7 of their 11 runs.
Offensively, i don’t have the exact stats but I felt like most of us made good contact. We were simply victimized by bad timing or good outfielding by the Shillelaghs. There were several singles and doubles that were left stranded plus that centerfielder in the black t-shirt made 3 or 4 solid catches I expected to drop.
On the bright side: Christine settled down after the first and threw 3 scoreless innings, once again confirming our confidence in her pitching. We got a few good hits, including singles from Lancy, Molly and Christine, a deep double from Matt and me (Miles) and we turned a double play to get us out of a bases loaded jam, which felt pretty good.
We play Topco early (6:15) next week so make your travel plans and warn your bosses early. Since Lee and Gary shared a spot this week, Matt and I are due to share fielding duties against Topco. Hopefully though, Elisabeth will join us giving a 12 person batting order so there will be no more 1 at-bat games like Gary and I had to suffer.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Miles! I promise to get it together for the whole game next time I pitch!
They hated the high balls, and I need to remember that
